It is 30 September 1986. Marc is cycling through Unna on his green racing bike. The boy wants to cycle from his parents’ house to a friend’s. His friend’s house is on the other side of a large maize field. But he never gets there.

A dirt track runs through the maize fields. Marc wants to take this path to cut the journey to his friend’s house short. He tells his mother that he plans to be back around 6 pm. That evening, his mother waits in vain for him. Later that same evening, she goes to the police and reports him missing. The officers immediately begin searching for him in the dense maize field, but are forced to call off the search due to darkness.

The next morning, the officers systematically comb through the field, row by row. Eventually, they find Marc. He is lying dead in the maize field, not far from the dirt track. The police also find the boy’s green racing bike there.

Why has the case still not been solved? What impact did the murder have on the town of Unna? We reconstruct the case once again and speak to the police and the then mayor of Unna.
